Remembering Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs: 1955-2011

Steve Jobs passed away October 5, 2011, at the age of 56. Apple invited everyone to share their thoughts about him as part of a public memorial. In this quick take, the words that came to my mind after a week without Steve.

Quick Take

When I heard Steve passed away, I was immediately shaken and heartbroken. I remain deeply saddened. I never knew Steve, but it felt like I knew him, because his work has had an impact on everything about life as we know it. Steve was not just a visionary; he realized the greatest of his visions, time and time again, and changed the world. My words cannot do justice to Steve’s immeasurable accomplishments. His lasting impression on this world speaks for itself.

That said, I wanted to share my thoughts on the now iconic banner image of Steve on the Apple home page. I find it deeply touching that the company has kept that remembrance of Steve on the home page for an entire week, where it has stood alone, despite the many product launches that could have taken that space. It brings a tear to my eye whenever I visit the site, not just for Steve, but for all those who knew him and loved him, to see that enduring display of appreciation for him. My heart goes out to Steve’s family, friends, colleagues, and the greater community affected by his passing.

I want to say thanks to Apple for paying tribute to Steve in such an honorable way, and for inviting people like me to participate in his memory. But most of all, thank you, Steve, for everything.
